It's official—animal issues are hot!
Proving that animal-protection issues are getting the attention they deserve, this year's Genesis Awards is proud to announce a phenomenal 53 nominations in 18 news and entertainment media categories! This unprecedented bounty of animal-friendly coverage has enabled the Genesis Awards to announce multiple nominations for the first time in its 21-year history—a sure sign that animal-protection concerns are hot! The winners will be presented on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at a star-studded gala ceremony at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The only event of its kind honoring the major news and entertainment media for showcasing animal-protection issues, the Genesis Awards is the annual barometer for measuring how far we have come in advancing the cause of animals. Debuting in 1986 with a group of 14 modest wins and no feature film, the upcoming 21st Genesis Awards boasts a total of nine nominations in three different feature film categories alone. They include Charlotte's Web, Hoot and Eight Below in Family Feature Film; Open Season, Over the Hedge and the Academy Award-winning Happy Feet in Animated Family Feature Film; and Fast Food Nation, Mountain Patrol: Kekexli, and Our Daily Bread in the Feature Film category.
"There's no doubt that animal issues are of increasing concern and relevance," says Beverly Kaskey, director of The Hollywood Office of The HSUS and producer of the Genesis Awards. "The fact that they can figure seamlessly in entertainment as diverse as The Simpsons, Fast Food Nation, CSI, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, proves that animal-protection has penetrated popular culture."
