Join celebrity presenters, including Bill Maher, Emily Deschanel, Kyle MacLachlan, James Cromwell, Kaley Cuoco, Kate Flannery, David Krumholtz, Debra Skelton and Ben Stein, among many others, in honoring the most groundbreaking, inspirational, courageous and entertaining media coverage of animal protection issues all in a unique, one-hour TV special.
In addition to acknowledging fifty nominees in eighteen categories, encompassing film, broadcast and print media, this year's show pays a moving tribute to NBC's "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere. Presented with the coveted Wyler Award for using her celebrity to draw unprecedented worldwide attention to Japan's brutal annual dolphin slaughter, a visibly moved Hayden tells the audience, "As an actor you always dream of winning Emmys, Golden Globes and Academy Awards but I don't think I've ever wished for an award that was as special and important to me as this one is."
The Wyler Award, which was bestowed on Sir Paul McCartney in 2007, is named in honor of Genesis Awards founder and animal activist Gretchen Wyler.
Also making memorable appearances, and speaking from the heart about their respective Genesis Award-winning projects are CNN's Anderson Cooper, whose "Planet in Peril" series highlights the illegal trade in endangered animals, "Sharkwater" writer-director Rob Stewart, whose documentary dispels the shark's negative image, and director Mike White, who tells the story of the cat who inspired both his respect for animals and his film, "Year of the Dog."
In recognizing such a diverse range of news and entertainment media, from the popular comedy, "According to Jim," to the venerable newsmagazine, "60 Minutes," the Genesis Awards is the only TV show able to offer audiences an enlightening and engaging "101" on some of the most urgent animal protection issues of the day.
With so much compassion for animals packed into one glitzy event, it's no wonder Bill Maher declares: "I'd rather get an award here than be nominated for twenty-five Emmy Awards."
