| Hens in battery cages can barely move. |
Approximately 100 million laying hens in India spend their lives confined to small, wire battery cages. These cages are so tiny that the birds cannot fully stretch their wings or walk. View pictures of commercial egg production facilities in India, and learn more about HSI's campaign against battery cages in India.
Here are some steps you can take to improve the welfare of egg-laying hens:
1. Never consume or serve any products containing battery cage eggs.
2. If you see eggs on a restaurant menu, ask the management to adopt a cage-free policy. Print out Consumer Leaflets [PDF] and hand them to restaurant managers. If you prefer, you can also order Consumer Cards by mail.
